FOIA Request Sent to Johnson County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Johnson County Election Department regarding a comprehensive list of candidates running in the upcoming spring election. The request was made on February 5, 2025.

We at Central Georgia News are committed to providing accurate and comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs. As part of our commitment, we requested detailed information about each candidate under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq.

The requested information includes each candidate's first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; their party affiliation; and all contact information such as address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals given our role in disseminating information.

We await a response from the Johnson County Election Department regarding this request. We continue to strive towards transparency and accountability in our local government by keeping the public informed about those who seek to represent them in office.
