FOIA Request Sent to Morgan County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Morgan County Election Department in Georgia on October 29, 2024. The request was made by Central Georgia News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In our pursuit of transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested specific records under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The information sought includes a list of methods used by the department to count votes during elections. If the counting process is manual, we also asked for an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

As journalists, we believe that access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We strive to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public through our reporting. Therefore, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a response from the Morgan County Election Department and will keep our readers updated with any developments regarding this request.
