This week, Representative Mike Collins (R-Ga.) is set to honor Henry County Police Officer Paramhans Desai at a prayer vigil and flag laying ceremony. The event will be hosted by Speaker Mike Johnson as part of National Police Week.

Police Officer Paramhans Desai was fatally shot in the line of duty on November 4th, 2021, in McDonough, Georgia, while responding to a domestic violence call. He later succumbed to his gunshot wounds at a local hospital. In an act of final service, Officer Desai donated his organs, saving the lives of 11 individuals.

"Our nation's law enforcement officers put their lives at risk every day in service to our communities," said Rep. Mike Collins. "It is my honor to lay a flag in memory of an American hero, Officer Paramhans Desai, who made the ultimate sacrifice."

On May 14, 2024, a prayer vigil will take place on the House Steps followed by a flag laying ceremony at the House Triangle in Washington, D.C., directly after votes. The flags will remain on the House Triangle throughout the duration of National Police Week.
