In 2022-23 school year, African American students had the highest representation in Washington County schools

Among the many ethnicities represented in Washington County schools, African American was the most prevalent among Washington County students in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

Of the 2,725 students attending Washington County schools, 67.9% were African American. White students were the second most common ethnicity, making up 25.8% of Washington County student body.

In the previous school year, African American students were also the most common group in Washington County, representing 67.1% of the student body.

In the 2022-23 school year, the total number of students enrolled in public schools in the county dropped 3.6% when compared to the previous year.

As of 2024, Georgia has an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 15:1, which is better than the national average of 16:1. The state has its best student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1 in pre-kindergarten and middle school grades, while high school has an average ratio of 17:1.
