Students to compete at the World Congress Center
Three Carrollton High School seniors brought home hardware from the Region 3 SkillsUSA competition Jan. 27, including two first place awards, and have qualified for the state championships next month. This was the first time CHS students competed in the Region 3 Championships at the Cobb Innovation and Technology Center in Marietta. Students competed in four areas: Carpentry, masonry, pin design, and T-shirt design. “Romnal and Joseph both competed and medaled first place in two Associated General Contractors of Georgia Skills Challenge events prior to their Region 3 SkillsUSA competition," said Chris Stone, director of the CHS RaLin Academy where Romnal and Joseph received training in both carpentry and masonry. "These students gravitate toward their prospective trades and have worked hard to hone skills necessary to be successful.” Joseph placed first in the region competition, while Romnal placed third.
Ginger Nixon, adviser for the CHS chapter of SkillsUSA, complimented Brianna on her design expertise, saying, “She is extremely talented as evidenced by her intricate T-shirt design. The design was developed to reflect both the state of Georgia and the SkillsUSA student organization. She did an amazing job!” Brianna also earned a first place award for her work.
All three students will be competing at the SkillsUSA State Championships during the March 9-11 state conference, to be held at the World Congress Center in Atlanta, along with fellow senior Jocelyn Hernandez, who will compete in blueprint reading.
