Treutlen Middle/High School enrolls 20 Hispanic students for 2024-25

In the 2024-25 school year, Treutlen Middle/High School had 20 Hispanic students enrolled, reflecting a 42.9% increase from the prior year, the Georgia Department of Education reported.

The school’s total enrollment stood at 509 students in 2024-25. Hispanic students represented 4% of that total, which places them among the smallest demographic groups at the school.

Located in the Treutlen County School District with its main administrative office in Soperton, the school serves students from the area.

Among both schools in Treutlen County School District, Treutlen Elementary School reported the largest number of Hispanic students for 2024-25, enrolling 22.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, Georgia’s public school population is made up of approximately 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander students.

Chronic absenteeism continues to be a challenge in Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. To address this, the state launched several new initiatives, including a real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness effort, and resources for districts experiencing higher absentee rates.

In 2025, state lawmakers updated school attendance regulations, no longer allowing expulsion solely for absenteeism. The update also included new reporting rules and aligned efforts to provide students with alternative diploma options.

By 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio was about 14:1, which is better than the U.S. average of 15:1.
