How many African American students were enrolled in Laurens County school districts in 2022-23 school year?

There were 3,716 African American students enrolled in Laurens County school districts in the 2022-23 school year, 1.5% more than the previous year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

Data showed that Laurens County school districts welcomed 8,245 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 45.1% of the student body to be the second most represented ethnicity in the county's school districts.

The main offices of all school districts mentioned in the story are located in cities associated with Laurens County.

As of 2024, Georgia has an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 15:1, which is better than the national average of 16:1. The state has its best student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1 in pre-kindergarten and middle school grades, while high school has an average ratio of 17:1.
