Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington) has appointed State Representative Butch Parrish (R-Swainsboro) as the Chairman of the House Rules Committee. The announcement was made today, highlighting Parrish's exceptional representation of his district and his commitment to improving healthcare across Georgia.

In a statement, Speaker Burns expressed his confidence in Parrish's ability to serve the Georgia House and the people of the state in his new role. He praised Parrish for his integrity, hard work, compassion, and dedication to the interests of Georgia. Burns also acknowledged Parrish's role in continuing the legacy of Chairman Richard Smith, who previously held the position.

"I am proud to announce the appointment of Representative Butch Parrish as Chairman of the House Rules Committee," said Speaker Burns. "Through his integrity, hard work, compassion, and dedication to the interests of our state, he will also carry on the indelible legacy of Chairman Richard Smith—and I am confident that Chairman Parrish will serve the Georgia House and the people of our great state extremely well in this new role."

In response to his appointment, Rep. Parrish expressed his gratitude and humility. He emphasized his commitment to serving his constituents and the people of Georgia by approaching his work with an open mind and a focus on delivering results.

"I am incredibly honored and humbled to be named Chairman of the House Rules Committee," said Rep. Parrish. "Throughout my time in the House, I have strived to bring an open mind, focus on the facts and deliver results for my constituents and the people of Georgia – and that’s what I intend to continue to do as Rules Chairman."

Parrish also acknowledged the legacy left by Chairman Richard Smith and expressed his desire to build on the accomplishments of the committee under Smith's leadership. He thanked Speaker Burns and his colleagues for their vote of confidence and support.

The House Rules Committee plays a crucial role in the legislative process, overseeing the flow of legislation from committee passage to determining which bills should be debated and voted on the House floor.

Chairman Parrish has been representing House District 158, which includes Candler, Emanuel, and Treutlen counties and portions of Bulloch County, since 1985. He has previously served as the Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and the Chairman of the Special Committee on Healthcare.

With his appointment as Chairman of the House Rules Committee, Rep. Butch Parrish is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping Georgia's legislative agenda and ensuring that the voices of the people are heard.
