Georgia GOP Chair, Josh McKoon, has praised Senate Republicans for their investigation into alleged abuse of office in the Fulton County District Attorney's Office. McKoon expressed concern over potential case cherry-picking and its impact on public safety and due process.

The investigation comes after Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis announced charges against former President Trump and 18 associates for an alleged attempt to overturn the 2020 election.

McKoon specifically commended Majority Leader Gooch, Caucus Chair Anavitarte, and Senators Clint Dixon, Shelly Echols, Russ Goodman, Bo Hatchett, Chuck Payne, and Sam Watson for their commitment to seeking clarity on the alleged abuse within the district attorney's office.

"These Senators are absolutely right in pointing out concerns that District Attorney Willis may be 'cherry-picking' cases to further her personal political agenda, potentially at the expense of public safety in Fulton County," McKoon stated.

He expressed appreciation on behalf of Georgia Republicans throughout the state for the bold leadership exhibited by these Senate Republicans.

The complaint launched by Georgia Senate Republicans raised concerns about Willis' decision to empanel a special grand jury to investigate political adversaries amidst a backlog of cases. The complaint attempted to correlate this action with a series of deaths in the Fulton County Jail.

It is worth noting that there have been six individuals who passed away while in the custody of Fulton County since the end of July. One such case involved Lashawn Thompson, who died in September 2022 while being held in a cell with a bedbug infestation at Fulton County Jail's psychiatric section. An independent autopsy concluded that the cause of death was severe neglect.

The complaint was filed as Senate Republicans announced an investigation into conditions at the Fulton County Jail, which coincided with a separate ongoing investigation by the U.S. Justice Department.

In August, House Judiciary Committee Republicans also launched a probe into the DA's office, raising concerns about potential political motivations behind the charges brought against former President Trump and his associates.

Despite these investigations and concerns, a representative for Willis chose not to provide a comment regarding the complaint.

The Georgia Republican Party Chairman's praise for the Senate Republicans' efforts highlights the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the Fulton County District Attorney's Office and its alleged abuse of office.
