The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center is holding Reflections of Dr. King events observing the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. beginning Wednesday, Jan. 18 and concluding Jan. 20, 2023.
“Dr. King was one of the most influential pioneers for equality during the Civil Right era,” said Dublin VAMC Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist Marcia Morris. “Our events over this time will highlight the life and accomplishments of Dr. King who stated, ‘The time is always right to do what is right.’”
Festivities will begin today with an event streaming from the Martin Luther King Jr. Museum. One of the focuses for the events this week is, “It Starts With Me: Cultivating A Beloved Community Mindset To Transform Unjust Systems”
A “Walk Down Memory Lane” will be held tomorrow, Jan. 19, from 8 a.m. to noon in the hallway leading to the main auditorium. A replica of Dr. King will be at a podium where his speeches and writings will be broadcast over the audio-visual system.
Friday will conclude the Reflections of Dr. King events with a luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the main auditorium featuring our keynote speaker C. Kenny Walters, President of the Dublin-Laurens County National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The luncheon will recognize two Veterans and award two Dublin are high school students for scholastic achievement.
“Reflections of Dr. King is a great reminder of Dr. King’s quote, ‘Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” Morris said. “That’s why it’s important to remember that Dr. King’s observance every year is more about a day on, and less about a day off.”
