On Thursday, December 15th, 2022 the City of Swainsboro, the Swainsboro Downtown Development Authority, and the Swainsboro-Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce held a Bicentennial Ceremony at Swainsboro City Hall to kick off the season of celebration marking 200 years of incorporation. Mayor Greg Bennett welcomed everyone to the ceremony followed by an invocation from Donald Jenkins and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mayor Pro Tem Bobbie Collins. Shayna Boston, member of the Bicentennial Committee, recognized all living past and present mayors and council members for the city before Ken Warnock, CEO of the Swainsboro-Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce and Development Authority, gave a brief history of Swainsboro and events leading to its incorporation on December 6th, 1822. Representative Butch Parrish was present to read a House Resolution recognizing and commending Swainsboro's Bicentennial Celebration. In closing remarks, Ken Warnock shared some of the upcoming events planned for the Bicentennial Celebration season including the MLK Day Parade and events, Heart Day partnership with Emanuel Medical Center for American Heart Month, Uncommon Cru's Winner's Circle, a time capsule and Bicentennial monument, a historical marker for the city, a mural covering the history of Swainsboro, 200 years of history in photos, and Pine Tree Festival festivities.
The city's Bicentennial Celebration will continue through May 2023, so please join us for these upcoming events! And a special thank you to all who attended the kick off ceremony!
