Four Cherokee County School District students have earned statewide honors for science!

Kaden Patel and Noah Larkin from Little River ES earned first place at the statewide competition in the barge building contest, with Mason Trombley and Lily Juneghani from Hickory Flat ES placing third in the same event.

“Congratulations to our Science Olympians for their success at statewide and district competitions,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “We have made STEM learning a priority in our school district, as mastery of this knowledge not only prepares students for growing career fields, but also expands their critical thinking and problem solving skills.  Thank you to the teachers who volunteer as team coaches and to our curriculum team and community sponsors for presenting this annual competition.”

The four state winners qualified for the competition through their performance at the CCSD Science Olympiad held in the spring at River Ridge HS.  Four hundred and twenty students competed in 18 events including barge building, crime busters and water rockets contests.  Cobb EMC and Gas South sponsored the districtwide event.
