GA U.S. House District 12 issued the following announcement on Apr. 14.

Yesterday, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) convened district leaders in business, athletics, and public service to speak with a group of area high school students during his 2022 GA-12 Youth Leadership Summit.

The event, held every two years, brings young people and adults together to talk about the meaning of leadership, offering students a chance to hear the success stories of various Georgians who have distinguished themselves as leaders in our district.

This year's event welcomed student groups from 21area high schools and featured remarks from entrepreneur Devalon Young, Georgia Southern men's basketball coach Brian Burg, U.S. Attorney and Brigadier General Bobby Christine, and Golden Harvest Food Bank President & CEO Amy Breitmann.

Congressman Allen kicked off the event by speaking about his own experience starting a small business at the age of 25, sharing a quote that inspires him from legendary NFL coach Vince Lombardi: "Leaders are not born; they are made."

Following remarks from each of the featured guests, students and educators asked the speakers about their backgrounds, careers, and what leadership means to them. Allen concluded the event with a challenge to the students: become a leader in your own life.

After the event, Congressman Allen made the following statement:

"During the event, we heard from four individuals, all of whom come from different backgrounds and have different careers, but all of whom are exceptional examples of what leadership looks like. We are fortunate to have such exemplary role models in our district who have proven their leadership with service to their communities.

"I am grateful to everyone who participated in this year's Youth Leadership Summit and, after speaking with the students who attended, I am more optimistic than ever that the next generation of community leaders will help make Georgia's 12th Congressional Districtan even better place to live."
