Dublin-Laurens County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Mar. 4.
The City of Dublin’s focus on redeveloping and revitalizing neighborhoods attracted the attention of students at the University of Georgia College of Engineering who are using Stubbs Parks as their capstone design project. These senior engineering students have worked at Stubbs Park under the guidance of Thomas & Hutton and the city engineering department to provide recommendations and plans for the park.
The Capstone Design Courses give the students an opportunity to lead an engineering design project from planning to completion, utilizing the ethics, laws, rules and regulations, licensure, leadership, and professional practice of engineering during the course.
“The City of Dublin is proud to be working with engineering students from the University of GA on their capstone project which is bringing fresh ideas to the continued redevelopment of the Stubbs Park area. We look forward to seeing what these young professionals bring to the table for us in the coming months. They have been working very hard by performing survey activities onsite and holding regular meetings to keep us informed of their progress. It’s been a pleasure answering their questions and working with them,” says City of Dublin Director of Engineering Matthew Bradshaw.
The students will deliver a drawing set consisting of several plans including the existing conditions, demolition plan, site plan, utility plan, grading plan, erosion & sedimentation control plan (in three different phases), a landscape plan, and a stream design plan. They will also include a report which will detail the applicable codes for the jurisdictions having authority over the project, a hydrologic analysis, our findings and recommendations for the implementation of the project, and a cost analysis. Their work is scheduled to be completed in mid-May and presented for review to Thomas & Hutton and the City of Dublin.
The students, Joy Chapman, Kenny Sanchez, and Nigel Wright are pleased to be part of the revitalization effort of the Stubbs Park area saying, "It has been a pleasure working with the City of Dublin. We are very excited to see our capstone project be implemented and we believe that the revitalization of Stubbs Park will improve the Dublin community in the coming years."
