GA U.S. House District 10 issued the following announcement on Dec. 6.

On Friday, December 3rd during a video presentation for the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce Legislative Breakfast, Congressman Jody Hice (GA-10) honored Tammie Bennett as the Hice Headliner for the month of December. Congressman Hice’ district director, Jessica Hayes, presented the award to Tammie, who for eight years has served as the director of the Jefferson County Leisure Center.

“Local leaders tell me that Tammie Bennett truly is an ‘unsung hero,’” said Congressman Hice. “She has gone beyond the call of duty in serving the incredible people of Jefferson County, in particular the seniors. When the Leisure Center temporarily closed its doors during the height of COVID-19, Tammie went out of her way to make sure that seniors in the community were well taken care of. From delivering meals, to ensuring medication was taken on time, to hosting outdoor activities, Tammie passionately proved her devotion to the seniors whom she serves. Thank you, Tammie, for your commitment, compassion, and community concern that you faithfully demonstrate.”

Each month, Congressman Hice recognizes one outstanding local citizen who goes above and beyond to help their neighbors and strengthen our community. To nominate an outstanding individual, send an email to.
