Oconee Fall Line Technical College issued the following announcement on Mar. 1.

Seven Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) students garnered gold medals at the 2022 SkillsUSA State Leadership & Skills Conference held in Atlanta on Friday, February 25. 

According to the SkillsUSA website, the state Leadership & Skills Conference gives students the opportunity to put their technical skills to the test in over 70 career competitions and sharpen their workplace and technical skills in leadership trainings.  

OFTC’s gold medalists participated in The Opening and Closing Team contest which is a teamwork and oral presentation consisting of the team’s ability to communicate their understanding of the symbolic representation of the Skills emblem. Participating students were Bailey Creamer (Laurens), Josh Thomas, (Laurens), Nicole Shenk (Johnson), Chris Wilson (Laurens), Antonio Bell (Laurens), Parker Fountain (Johnosn), and Chilor Thomas (Laurens).  

Other students who participated in the state competition and represented OFTC were David Clark (Telfair) who participated in welding; and duo Nathan Valley (Telfair) and James Burchfield (Laurens) who participated in mechatronics.  

The Opening and Closing Team will attend the National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta in June.
