In the 2024-25 school year, East Laurens High School enrolled 26 multiracial students, marking a 36.8% increase over the previous year, reports from the Georgia Department of Education show.
Total enrollment at East Laurens High School was 656 students in 2024-25. Multiracial students accounted for 4% of this population, the second-smallest subgroup on campus.
The school is part of the Laurens County School District, which has its central office in Dublin.
Of the eight schools in the district, Northwest Laurens Elementary School posted the most multiracial student enrollments for 2024-25, reaching 40 students.
Statewide, more than 1.7 million students attended Georgia’s public schools, according to the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. Youth in elementary grades made up the largest group with 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by 388,733 in middle school (22.7%), and 539,092 in high school (31.4%).
Chronic absenteeism continues to affect Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, the Georgia Department of Education said. The department has started a statewide initiative featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness campaign, and targeted help for high-need districts to raise daily attendance levels.
In 2025, Georgia’s lawmakers passed an update to student attendance laws prohibiting expulsion solely for absenteeism. This change created new reporting obligations and supports alternative pathways to a diploma for students.
As of 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio is about 14:1, falling below the national average of 15:1.
