FOIA Request to Laurens County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

Central Georgia News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The request is for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.

The requested information includes the first, middle, and last names of the candidates, the office they are running for, their jurisdiction of office, and party affiliation. In addition to this basic information about each candidate, Central Georgia News has also requested contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number, and email address.

As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us at Central Georgia News to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We await a response from the Laurens County Election Department regarding this request.
