FOIA Request to Hancock County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

We at Central Georgia News have formally requested information from the Hancock County Election Department under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The request was made in our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The specific records we have asked for include a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. We’ve requested that this list be provided in an electronic format and include each candidate’s first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation.

Additionally, we’ve requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We await the response from the Hancock County Election Department regarding this request.
