FOIA Request to Greene County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

In our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Central Georgia News have sent a request for records under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The request was directed towards the Greene County Election Department and seeks information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.

The specific details requested include each candidate’s first, middle, and last name, the office they are running for, the jurisdiction of that office, and their party affiliation. In addition to these details, we also requested contact information for each candidate which includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
