A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Georgia Peace Officers’ Annuity and Benefit Fund on September 20, 2024. The request was made by Central Georgia News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In line with our commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we sought access to specific records under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The requested information pertains to the pension fund’s roster for all active and retired employees for the year of 2023.

The detailed data fields we asked for include last name, first name, middle name, date of birth, employer name, employment start date, employment end date, salary, compensation type, amount, year, process date, last disbursement amount, disbursement frequency and the contribution amount for 2023.

As a media organization serving the public interest by disseminating information and holding public institutions accountable, we believe that access to these records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We also asserted our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in gathering and reporting news.

We await the response from the Georgia Peace Officers’ Annuity and Benefit Fund regarding this FOIA request. As always at Central Georgia News, we are committed to keeping you informed about important local governmental affairs.
