FOIA Request to Georgia College & State University Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, Central Georgia News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Georgia College & State University. The request seeks detailed information about the university’s Chinese National students and associated policies under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq.

The request specifically asks for documents or lists that detail all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their department of study. If certain information is protected, we have requested the total number of such students at the university and a breakdown by department. Additionally, we are seeking information on scholarships received by these students, including amounts and sources.

Furthermore, we have inquired about any scholarship recipients affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council and requested identification of relevant scholarships from previous requests if applicable. Lastly, we have asked for any policies or procedures describing how the university monitors students, including Chinese Nationals, to protect its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of Central Georgia News and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating state and federal governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. We believe access to public records is essential for holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news, we have requested a fee waiver due to our role in disseminating information.
