COUNTY OF BALDWIN: Barrows Ferry Road bridge closed for replacement

COUNTY OF BALDWIN: Barrows Ferry Road bridge closed for replacement
0Comments

County of Baldwin issued the following announcement on June 7.

The Barrows Ferry Road bridge over Tobler Creek located northeast of downtown Milledgeville was closed to traffic this week so a new bridge can be built in its place.

The work zone is closed to thru traffic for a scheduled 180 days barring delays caused by weather or material procurement. Motorists may use North Jefferson Street as the offsite detour during the road closure period.

The 62-year-old structure was below current design standards and was posted for weight restrictions. Georgia DOT is committed to helping local governments reduce the number of posted bridges throughout the state through its bridge replacement programs.

The new bridge being built over Tobler Creek will be longer, wider, and up to current design standards, making it a safer crossing for the traveling public.

Georgia DOT contractor Georgia Bridge and Concrete is overseeing this $2.3 million project.
