WASHINGTON, D.C. —  Representative Mike Collins (R-Ga.) delivered a speech on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives criticizing President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan. In the address, Collins urged his colleagues to override the President’s veto of H.J. Res. 45, a resolution of disapproval that passed the House and Senate.

Key Excerpts

“Everyday hardworking Americans who either chose not to attend college or who have paid off their loans are on the hook for the financial decisions of others. You tell me, does that sound like a fair shake for the American taxpayer?”

“It’s not even clear if the President has the authority to do this. He hijacked a law meant to help veterans who had served their country following 9/11 to justify this unprecedented bailout.”

“House Republicans are standing up to this administration’s unreasonable and irresponsible policies.”

Background

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates this handout will cost taxpayers $400 billion.

The United States Supreme Court will soon deliver a decision in Nebraska v. Biden, which challenged the constitutionality of the loan bailout.
