The City of Dublin, Georgia is pleased to announce the appointment of Woodrow Carswell as Teen Court Administrator.
The City of Dublin’s Teen Court is an innovative intervention program in which youth that have committed first-time misdemeanor crimes are allowed to attend a court system led by their peers. Volunteer middle and highschoolers, alongside professional volunteer attorneys and judges, serve as defense and prosecution attorneys, clerks, bailiffs, and jurors. In this role, Woodrow will lead and coordinate the program, work directly with volunteers, and oversee monthly court sessions.
“Teen Court is beneficial for the City of Dublin and Laurens County because it allows the youth to participate in the judicial system,” said Woodrow. “They learn how to work together and how the process works; therefore, it creates better and empowered citizens. It broadens the possibilities of their careers and professional choices, and above all else, it is something they can take ownership of. It is about teens helping teens change the direction of their lives.”
Born in Cadwell and raised in Eastman, Georgia, Mr. Carswell is a graduate of Peabody High School and Albany State University. He served as an educator in Walton County for 15 years and later Laurens County for 33 years. In his spare time, he enjoys teaching Sunday School, fellowshipping with his Holly Spring Baptist Church family, cooking, spending time with his family, listening to music, traveling, and just relaxing at home.
“Woodrow’s lifetime dedication to educating youth and his continued willingness to serve in this educational capacity proves his heart is that of a servant. He is going to take our beloved Teen Court program to a new level and I’m excited for what the future holds” said City Manager, Josh Powell.
