Central High School issued the following announcement on May 24.
Two (2) Central High School students were honored by the W.S. Harman Foundation. Savanna Yates and Bradley Kessler were awarded scholarships by Cherri Harman LeBlanc and Chuck Harman.
Mr. W.S. Harman was one of Central High School’s first Agriculture teachers when the school first opened. His passion for agriculture education is the legacy his family continues to share with students through the scholarship created in his name. The Central High School Agriculture Department is named for and dedicated in honor of Mr. W.S. Harman and Mr. Chuck Joiner.
Mr. Harman was born in Carroll County in 1934. After earning his degree from the University of Georgia, he embarked on a 35-year career in education. Mr. Harman was an agriculture teacher, principal of Central Primary School and assistant superintendent of Carroll County Schools. As assistant superintendent he oversaw Human Resources, construction, curriculum and maintenance operations. His greatest passion was as the agriculture teacher. Mr. Harman was the driving force in the development and construction of the vocational high school and Carroll County’s Agriculture Center. Mr. Harman hired the Young Farmers Instructor, Chuck Joiner. Each year an FFA jacket is awarded in Mr. Joiner’s name to an FFA student.
Savanna Yates and Bradley Kessler will both be attending Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton, Georgia and both have plans to become agriculture teachers.
