2022-23 School Year: How many students were enrolled in Hancock County schools?

There were 664 students enrolled in Hancock County schools in the 2022-23 school year, 2.6% less than the previous year, according to reports from the Georgia Department of Education.

Girls made up 51.1% of the county's student body, while the other 48.9% were boys.

Data also showed that African American students made up 95.8% of the student body, the largest percentage in Hancock County schools, followed by multiracial students with 1.7%, 1.7% white students and 0.6% Hispanic students.

Lewis Elementary School stood out with the highest enrollment among Hancock County's three schools in the 2022-23 cycle, welcoming 273 students.

As of 2024, Georgia has an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 15:1, which is better than the national average of 1:16. The state has its best student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1 in pre-kindergarten and middle school grades, while high school has an average ratio of 17:1.
